Fighting over natural resources, environmental destruction, and poverty that prevail on earth are all related to how we live our lives. It is hard for us to be aware of it even if we know it is not easy to change our way of life. If more people become aware, want to change, and take action, they will become great agents for the betterment of the whole world.
WE21 Japan(NPO), appreciating each step of a hundred people, rather than a hundred steps of one, calling for each citizen to live and act for the world and for the earth.
"WE21 Japan Group" consists of 39 WE21 Japan, including 38 local WE21 NPOs that operate WE Shops in respective locals and the "WE21Japan" which takes the responsibility of overall coordination. They cooperate with each other, sharing the same mission.
It is our mission to end the globally recurring problems of fighting over natural resources, environmental destructions, poverty, and promote focusing on the environment and human rights and increased local awareness. To connect those activities to the next generation, we promote local activities within local community.
At a WE Shop, we collect donated clothes and household items, new or secondhand, from the community and resell them (38 local WE 21 NPOs operate their own WE shops). In collaboration with industries, used clothes, glass, and china/ceramic wares are recycled.

Mutual support beyond national or regional boundaries
Profit, contribution, and donation raised at WE Shops are used to improve the quality of life of people in 30 countries and regions worldwide, mainly in Asia.
We send our members to visit project areas, and in turn invite people working within partner organizations to Japan, creating an opportunity for feelings, knowledge, technology, and information to be shared among us, and to learn from each other.
We engage in Fair Trade business. We buy and sell products of developing countries in Japan at a fair price.
During annual campaign related to the U.N. World Food Day (16 Oct) and the International Anti-Poverty Day (17 Oct), we try to raise people's awareness on the world's poverty by donating sales of WE shops on those days, holding seminars or photo exhibitions, serving food of the project areas, and giving customers a quiz.
Seminars and Report sessions
We invite staff of partner NGOs to speak about their activities and the current situation, especially on poverty, the environment, and human rights.
We visit schools and local organizations with a study kit to carry out workshops which, using everyday items, facilitate people to understand the global concerns which have a lot to do with our way of life in Japan.
Building a society which encourages participation of citizens
We collect information and make research on the global resource issue, local action toward a peaceful society, multi-cultural community, and NPO tax legislation to find solution for them.
Let's try not to throw away things and stop wasting global resources. Someone else may use and give another life to what you don't need. Profits of WE Shop are used in assistance projects to help empower people mainly in Asia.
More than 100,000 people per year bring in items to donate.
40,000 volunteers in total handle them to promote resource-circulation.
